At first I thought it was made of a scratchy, too-tightly woven cotton that wouldn't breathe. But then when I wore it (without washing it initially) I realized it breathed just fine as cotton should. When I washed it, it got much softer. I took a star away because the cotton is a but thin, and I think it did shrink without me putting it in the dryer. I never understand why people complain about cotton shrinking AFTER they put it in the dryer (that is just a given) but when it shrinks even a little without being put in the dryer, that's a bit concerning. So if you buy this shirt, line dry is a definite unless you want to go up a size. BTW I am female, so I bought the small and it fits me just fine: good length for leggings, not super long like some guys' shirts (I'm 5'4") though a bit tight on my hips now that it's shrunk a bit after washing. Also, I have broader shoulders and this fits me well in the shoulders so it may be too wide in the shoulders for some women.
